Most OTC products are exempt from the requirement for an MSDS because they are:
- pharmaceutical products in solid oral dosage forms (i.e., tablets and capsules).
- over-the-counter products packaged for direct consumer sale.
- dietary supplements.
The only required MSDS are those for specified products (liquids, creams, ointments) packaged in institutional sizes.

In those instances, the strength listed on the front of the label refers to the compound (or salt of the product.) The Supplement Facts box lists the elemental amount of that particular mineral (calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc) which is generally the value to be used when determining your daily intake (unless otherwise specified from your doctor.)
